While a President may need to take immediate defensive action against
another attacking country without the permission of Congress any such
action should be limited in nature. We should have no entangling
alliances that brings about a what is termed a police action. The US
Constitution is very specific that only Congress can make a declaration
of War and semantics over words and actions should not be misconstrued
in any way. Furthermore the Constitution does not give the Congress the
right to defer this right to any other authority like the President or
the United Nations. We also believe that Congress must define at the
time War is declared what are the acceptable term to the end of any war
that it chooses to involve the United States in. [ like it ] |
